Students Sent Home In Katsina As Unknown Disease Claim 8 Lives

An unknown epidemic has claimed the lives of about eight students in Katsina State. The students were specifically from Government Science Secondary School, Kurfi, Katsina State. The authorities of the school following the incident shut down the school and sent the students home for fear of losing more students. This was made known by Kabir Lawal, the lawmaker representing Kurfi Constituency at the Katsina House of Assembly yesterday during a plenary when matters of urgent public importance were addressed. According to him, “The epidemic has forced authorities of the school to shut down the school and send pupils back home.” NIGERIA NEWS gathered from reports that, “Garba Useini, representing Kafur Constituency, and Bishir Mamnan, representing Dutsin-ma Constituency, who claimed that the epidemic affected their constituencies as well, said they could not give the number of casualties.” Meanwhile, the house faulted the Board for sending the students home and closing down the school as they said “the act was capable of spreading the disease.” Meanwhile, the Committee on education and health has been saddled with the responsibility by the speaker, Abubakar Kusada to investigate the matter.
